Anything Is a Blessing

“Anything is a blessing that makes us pray.” C.H. Spurgeon

Throughout our lives we face things that challenge us, that challenge our faith. The death of a loved one, the loss of a job, illness, depression, loneliness. Satan uses every challenge to tempt us in some way.

God tells us through the Apostle Paul that we only face temptations that are common to humanity. Normal every day things that everyone faces. The blessing for those who believe in Jesus is that God is faithful! (1 Cor 10:13) He comforts us in our times of need.

We often find ourselves asking why. Why do these things happen to us? Why does God allow pain, suffering, loss?

The simple answer is that He allows temptation so He can be glorified. Everything is about Christ, the Father and the Holy Spirit — Everything is about God.

Romans 5 teaches us that our trials help us to grow. They give us strength to endure, and bring hope. Trials and temptations give us an opportunity to trust God. They give us an opportunity to glorify Him.

When we praise and glorify God in the midst of our trials it is an example to others of God’s power and grace. We can share the gospel simply by facing a challenge with a right heart and spirit. Those who are watching us expect us to behave as they would. But when they see us turn to our Father in heaven and say “Thank you for this experience, please help me get through it!” we show them God’s glory.

When you face your next challenge, remember God’s promise. Call out to Him in prayer. Ask Him to show you the path, to guide your feet and guard your tongue. Put your trust in our God who says, “do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine. I will be with you…” Isaiah 43:1-2
